Bielefelder City Walk #22 with Cynthia Krell
Art in Public Space: Who looks at this?

Meeting point: Bielefelder Kunstverein, Welle 61, Bielefeld
Destination: Bielefelder Altstadt
Duration: ca. 1,5 hours

Art in everyday life often causes perplexity - if anyone reacts at all. Because many people often go past sculptures, fountains, installations, murals or ground works carelessly. Art is not recognized as such. Therefore, the city walk not only leads into the sculpture park of the Kunsthalle Bielefeld, but also focuses on the seemingly casual art in public space. It is about an approach through a subjective perception, an approach in exchange about it or through artistic interventions.

Lecture »Unterwegs in der Landschaft Stadt« with Kay von Keitz (author and curator, Cologne) in the context of »Bielefelder City Walks«

Saturday, September 29, 2018, 2 pm

Workshop »Unterwegs in der Landschaft Stadt« with Kay von Keitz (author and curator, Cologne) in the context of »Bielefelder City Walks«
Lecture and workshop will be held in German.

In the spirit of flâneurs and situationists, but also from the perspective of current artists, the urban landscape, which we generally refer to as a city, should be viewed and experienced together. A »different view«, which the arts have always allowed and bring us closer to, should be directed towards larger contexts, urban and architectural peculiarities as well as remarkable details. It deals with planned as well as unplanned, plausible and inexplicable, historical and atmospheric moments that are ignored in routine everyday perception.

Kay von Keitz studied Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Practice at the University of Hildesheim. He lives in Cologne since 1993 and works in the fields of art and architecture as a freelance author, publisher and curator. In 1999, together with Sabine Voggenreiter, he founded the international exhibition and event project »plan - Architektur Biennale Köln«. From 2012 to 2015, on behalf of the City of Cologne, he designed and implemented the first phase of the newly established »City Lab for Art in Public Space« under the project title »The Urban Congress« together with Markus Ambach. Since November 2014 he is chairman of the Art Advisory Council of the City of Cologne.
