Jenni Tischer

Soliloquy

MAY 12 – JULY 15, 2012

OPENING: FRIDAY, MAY 11, 19 PM

The Bielefelder Kunstverein is pleased to be able to stage her first institutional exhibition for the artist, Jenni Tischer. The exhibition is entitled »Soliloquy« and creates a scenario for current textile sculptures and watercolour drawings, which the artist has developed especially for the rooms in the Kunstverein’s upper floor. Proceeding from an extensive framework sculpture in three parts, Tischer depicts various patterns of presentation in the exhibition, as well as ways of reading poetry and the grammar of forms, In this way, she variously links texts and textures into a special visual system.

Jenni Tischer creates sculptural installations, watercolours and videos from fundamental design principles, combining them through a conceptual approach to her work. In this formative process, she also reflects theoretical questions on cultural meanings and spatial relations. In the process, one of the artist’s key interests lies with the multiplicity of narrative design instruments and forms of communication. She traces them through the interactions of material, colour and form. In her works involving the use of space, Tischer often uses monochrome textiles, which she arranges contrastively on wooden constructions made for this purpose, on image carriers or otherwise freely in space. That makes her installations resemble settings in space or stages, where objects become surfaces for the projection of individual as well as collective notions and demarcate a possible area for viewing them. Totally in keeping with the exhibition’s title, Tischer is sharing her ideas with the audience in Bielefeld.

Jenni Tischer (*1979 in Heidelberg) lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden and at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Vienna. Most recently, Tischer’s works were shown in the context of exhibitions at the Galerie Krobath (Berlin) and the Galerie Senn (Vienna), project-spaces Dolores (Galerie Ellen de Bruijn, Amsterdam) and Saprophyt (Space for the Realisation of Artistic Projects and Interventions, Vienna) as well as the Augarten Contemporary of the Belvedere Vienna.
